  • What service does Chess Player Matchmaker provide for me? How does it work?
We provide you the service of finding you elite chess players for your chess event with ease. The process for finding you your players starts with you booking a call with us to discuss your tournament. Secondly, you enter the details of you inquiry in the organizer's form you can find below on this site. We will then start our work searching for appropriate players according to the criteria you defined. We get back to you with your players as soon as possible, generally within a week at maximum. You will receive the suitable players' contact information to coordinate all further details of your event. You will also receive an invoice based on the fees we agreed upon in our call. Fees vary depending on the difficulty of your request (i.e. GM compared to FM), as well as the total number of players we find for you.
  • What should I offer to find the players I am looking for?
For FMs, WGMs, IMs and other strong players >2300 elo: If you are looking to boost the player field in your open, offering a starting fee exception is a good option. You may also subsidize travel or accommodation costs to increase the likelihood of success. If you are looking for strong players/norm hopefuls for your IM/GM norm tournament, you can even ask for a reasonable participation fee. For up-and-coming players, this is often covered by their regional chess associations or sponsors. For IMs: IMs can generally participate in most tournaments free of starting fees, so offering this is a requirement. You should also offer to cover travel expenses and most likely offer a participation compensation and/or include accommodation. The most im portant factors for the success of your offer are: travel expenses, accomodation expenses, participation compensation and prize money. For GMs: For GMs, travel expenses and a participation compensation are a requirement. The latter should be at least a medium three-figure-amount. Again, the most important factors for the success of your offer are: travel expenses, accommodation expenses, participation compensation and prize money.
  • What if I change my mind after sending a request?
Sending your request, you agree to covering our small fee when we deliver you the contacts. As long as we have not gotten back to you with players, you are free to withdraw. If we fulfill your request and deliver you the players you wanted, we kindly ask you to uphold your end of the bargain.
  • Can I reject the players you broker me?
Generally no. The reason for this is that we have effort substantial effort with building our player network in general and finding players for your event concretely, for which we charge only a small fee. We allow for fairly specific requirements in the important determinants of title and rating, allowing you to fulfill all relevant criteria. Furthermore, we are cautious in who we take in as players and check whether players may have a history with bad behavior etc. To deliver the service as cheaply and easily as possible to you, we expect some amount of flexibility on the organizers site. That being said, if there are justified reasons for why our brokered players are unsuitable for you events, we are of course always open for dialogue.
  • What if a players agrees to participate but withdraws shortly beforehand or doesn't show up?
Life happens. However, we understand that organizers rely on players showing up once they agreed to do so. This is why in this case players are responsible for at least covering all expenses the organizer already paid for and can't cancel anymore. This includes the fee you paid to us for the contact brokerage. Obviously, we can't ensure you that everything will work out. However, we can promise you to keep the likelihood of such an instance as low as possible by carefully choosing the players who are allowed into our network. Furthermore, to allow the project to bring as many players and organizers together as possible, thus facilitating engagement in the game we all love, we reserve the right to remove players from our network if they withdraw more and once and/or without good reason. Lastly, if there is still a reasonable time left before the event starts, we will, of course, do our best to find a replacement candidate from our network, free of further charge.
  • How do I receive invites after signing up?
After signing up, you will receive a confirmation e-mail by us if you fulfill the requirements. We will then add you to our mailing-list to which we send tournament offerings. In the latter, we specify exactly what players are searched for. If you want to agree with the offer, simply answer our e-mail with "I, title - name - rating - nationality, hereby confirm wanting to take up the offer to participate in this tournament according to the conditions offered by the organizer." Places will be awarded on the first-come-first-serve principle. Only in special cases can organizers refuse participation of certain players, when later respondents might get the chance to fill in. If you agree to play in the event being able to note all stipulations of the tournaments and decide to withdraw later on or even shortly beforehand, organizers are entitled for refunds for your travel, accommodation and the commission they paid to us. Please ensure that you participate in offers you agree to. If you fail to adhere to agreements more than once, we reserve the right to exclude you from our lists.
  • I am an FM, WGM, WIM and/or a strong player with >2300 elo. Why can I register but not receive starting fees?
As a titled, >2300 elo player, you are undoubtedly a very strong chess player. That is why we can help you to get into tournaments free of charge. However, in terms of being paid to play in an event, organizers prefer IMs and GMs due to the prestige these titles bring with them. Accordingly, while we will be trying so secure small starting fees where that is possible on a case-by-case basis, for your player category the sums are likely, if at all, only small.
  • What if agree to participate but want do draw out due to sickness, personal reasons, etc.
Life happens. However, please understand that organizers rely on you showing up once you agreed to do so. This is why in this case you are responsible for at least covering all expenses the organizer already paid for and can't cancel anymore. This includes the fee they paid to us for the contact brokerage. Please understand in this context that we are very engaged in delivering as many interesting tournament invites as possible to you and have substantial effort with that. You are 100% free to choose which offers you want to accept. However, if you decide to withdraw despite having known all the details beforehand, this does not only damage your personal reputation but our's too. To allow the project to bring as many players and organizers together as possible, thus facilitating engagement in the game we all love, we reserve the right to remove players from our network if they withdraw more and once and/or without good reason.
  • What fees do we charge?
For organizers, fees depend on the number and indidividual strength of the players we broker organizers. We will discuss potential fees individually. For players, registering to receive offers is free. For tournament offers without startings fees or with starting fees lower than 100€, we charge no commission from players. Where starting fees >100€ are offered, we charge players a commission on their starting fee. Prize money can always be kept fully by the player having played great chess to earn it.
  • What are the requirements for travel mode and costs?
Below 5 hours traveling time via train or car (depending on player preferences), train tickets or car expenses (30ct/km) should be covered. If traveling time exceeds 5 hours, organizers should pay for the players' flights. Players are responsible for checking their travel possibilities at reasonable prices and present them to the organizers. After agreeing on the conditions, the players will book (and, if necessary, pre-pay) the tickets and subsequently send them to organizers for reimbursement. Special circumstances can be discussed between players and organizers afterwards.
  • What are the requirements for accomodation?
The tournament accomodation should be in walking proximity (<10 min) of the tournament destination. Breakfast should always be included, and usually dinner too.
